Here comes the sun
June has been a big blur for me. The Women’s World Cup started June 7 and I’ve been covering it for another blog. It’s exhausting work because sooooo exhilarating too. I love football–or soccer for the North Americans here–andI’m doing exactly what I want to be doing: spending days watching, talking, and writing football. Yeah!!!
Here comes the sun
It will all be over on July 7 and a heavy sadness will sink in. Most people who’ve met me would likely never say I’m sentimental but I am. My emotions are always just below the surface even if no one seems to recognize it.
This work has also brought me in contact with some really great people too. People I wouldn’t have met other otherwise, and hopefully we’ll keep in contact as time moves on. This the second time I’ve worked with this particular team and here’s hoping we’ll work together again.
There will be a grieving process and some tears when this is all over. I admit it. This is normal when you invest yourself in something or someone you love.
But I’ll move on and start something else to occupy my heart and mind until the next tournament. What exactly I don’t know, but it will be physically out in the sun somehow.
Rain has been the predominant weather forecast this past month so I haven’t missed much in terms of outdoor entertainment. That makes it easier to stay inside and do football all the time. But with a heavy forecast of sun for July that means getting outside, doing some hikes, and catching up with friends.
So bring on the sun and store away the television and computer. I am ready for it!
